My daughter’s elementary school has a beautiful tradition on the last day of school. At the end of the day, all of the teachers line the staircase as the outgoing fifth grade class descends the steps for the last time…A final farewell between students and teachers that have shared six meaningful years under the same roof. There are many tears, countless hugs and a whole lot of love.
As I reflect on my daughter’s time in elementary school I’m filled with gratitude. I’m grateful for the teachers and staff that pour their hearts into their work. I’m grateful for the care and thought that is put into each and every day. And I’m grateful for the ongoing efforts to make sure that every student feels as if they belong.
Without a doubt, each of the past six years was filled with growth for my daughter. Sometimes it was academic growth. Sometimes it was more social/emotional growth. Sometimes she learned how to get back up after a tough day.
And every year I grew as well, trusting more and more that things are unfolding as they should.
To the teachers and staff the fill the halls of our schools….THANK YOU.
Your work is so important to our families, to our communities and to our world. You are truly heroes.
